Getting Here

The Port of Kelsey Bay is found at the end of the main road in Sayward, BC. Sayward is located on northern Vancouver Island’s beautiful east coast, approximately 75 kilometres north of Campbell River. Whether you’re coming from as far south as Victoria, or from the north end of the Island, you’ll be treated to a scenic drive as you make your way to our beautiful area!

Getting Here from the South Island

Sidney / Victoria to Nanaimo

From the Schwartz Bay Ferry Terminal or Victoria International Airport in Sidney, travel south to Victoria on the Patricia Bay Highway (Route 17) for approximately 30 minutes. Take the McKenzie Avenue West exit toward Highway #1 / Nanaimo / Trans Canada Highway. From McKenzie Avenue West, turn right onto Provincial Route #1 North / Trans Canada Highway North. The drive to Nanaimo from Victoria will take approximately one and a half hours.

 

Nanaimo to Campbell River

Upon reaching Nanaimo, take the bypass route Highway 19, towards Campbell River, or from either the Duke Point or Departure Bay Ferry Terminals in Nanaimo, drive north on the Inland Island Highway (Highway 19) for approximately one and a half hours to Campbell River. You could also take the scenic Oceanside route to Campbell River (Highway 19A), which takes approximately two hours. 

 

Campbell River to Sayward

Continue into Campbell River watching for signs for Highway 19 North/Port Hardy North. This will take you over the bridge crossing the Campbell River. Campbell River to Sayward is approximately a 55-minute drive. Turn right at the Sayward Junction onto Sayward Road and proceed approximately 12 km to the end of the road where you will find the Wharf at the Port of Kelsey Bay.

 

Getting Here from the North Island

From Port Hardy

It takes about two hours to drive to Sayward from Port Hardy. Take Highway 19 South to Sayward. Turn left at the Sayward Junction and proceed approximately 12 km to the end of the road where you will find the Port of Kelsey Bay Wharf.

 

Parking

Parking is available in the area just before the wharf. Our wharf operates commercially, and at times there will be large boats and trucks at the site. Please respect them – as our customers, they enable us to keep the wharf open to the public.
